This is an original American Red Cross winter service hat from World War II. There’s one on display in The Met!! Designed by Elizabeth Hawes, these were made between 1941 and 1945. Eleanor Roosevelt wore this style hat with her winter weight Red Cross uniform during her 25,000 mile tour of the South Pacific in August-September 1943 as a representative of the American Red Cross. This one is in impeccable deadstock condition and is absolutely gorgeous. And even though it’s museum quality, I think it should be worn!
